Clean Your Brushes!

Brushes are any girl’s best friend when it comes to makeup. Using the right brush can make or break any makeup look so it is very important. And since these brushes come in contact with your skin every time you use them, it is equally important to make sure they’re clean.

There are several ways to clean your brushes. I’ve seen several tutorials about it and I think that Jen of FrmHeadToToe.com has the most number of ways to do it.

Baby Wipes
The first is the easiest and the most convenient because you only need baby wipes to clean your brushes. This is a good way to instantly clean and disinfect your brushes especially if you’re on the go or if you need to reuse brushes.

Anti-bacterial Dishwashing Liquid + Extra Virgin Olive Oil
The second is the more intensive and time consuming one because you need anti-bacterial dish washing soap and extra virgin olive oil. If you’ve got time and if you’re not planning to use your brushes right away, I think this is a really good way to make your brushes extra clean. The Anti-bacterial dishwashing liquid will disinfect your brushes and the extra virgin olive oil will keep the hairs soft and smooth. All you have to do is to mix some dishwashing liquid and olive oil on a plate (which you don’t use for eating) and swirl your dirty brushes on the mixture. Rinse off with water and dry. Make sure to dry your brushes with the bristles down so that the water doesn’t dissolve the glue that holds the brush hair together.

Parian Spirit
And lastly, which is what I usually do to clean my brushes, use Parian Spirit.

I like this cleaner because it smells citrusy and is very gentle on brushes. I bought mine almost a year and a half ago at Suesh in Greenhills when I took their basic makeup course. I think it costs P600 at that time but I’m not so sure.

Anyway, to clean your brushes with Parian Spirit, just pour some of the liquid on a tissue. Then wipe your makeup brushes on it.

Wipe it back and forth until the brush doesn’t stain the tissue with the makeup anymore. The brush hairs will be a bit damp after this process so make sure it’s dry before using them again.

Take a look at these pictures. Imagine all that dirt and makeup getting back on your face if you didn’t clean your brushes. Eww. That could even cause you to break out so make sure to clean your brushes regularly.

Brush Guards
Anyway, here’s an extra step to making sure your brushes are clean and in good shape. Use BRUSH GUARDS 🙂

Brush guards are made from meshed nylon material. Slip in your brushes to keep it’s shape, most especially if you cleaned them using Parian Spirit or Dishwashing Liquid + Olive Oil, and to help keep them protected from dirt and bacteria.

I also bought the brush guards from Suesh at Alabang Town Center for only P250.

So, ladies, make sure to clean your brushes regularly. I do agree with makeup gurus who say that great makeup starts with great skin. And one way to having great skin is making sure that the tools you use are clean 🙂
