2013 Holiday Gifts

2013 has been quite a challenging year for me but despite all the setbacks that I have experienced, I can say that it has been a year of blessings too 🙂

Before I proceed with sharing with you some of the lovely holiday gifts that I got, I just want to announce to my lovely readers that I am now 5 months pregnant (yay!!!). This is my first and it’s also one of the reasons why I have been on hiatus for a while in updating my blog because I was quite busy with focusing on my pregnancy and making sure that everything is going well. I am so excited to share with you this journey of mine because I know that my experience could also help some women out there. Anyway, that’s just some preview of my upcoming posts ^_^

So, the holidays are finally over! All the gifts have been sent out and I also got some ^_^

1. Bench Sweet Serendipity Moisturizing Body Lotion

I got this gift from my cousin Aaron and Grace. I have tried this already and I use it to moisturize my growing preggy belly after I take a shower. It’s not so greasy and I like the faint scent which is not too overpowering.

2. Wanderlush Secret Garden Body Lotion Collection

Our lovely voice over talent in the office gave this gift to me. It comes in three scents – peach blossom, orchid burst, and sunflower passion. I haven’t opened the box yet but I’m excited to try them out too. I’ve been quite obsessed with body lotions recently because I want to avoid the stretch marks caused by pregnancy :p

3. Sunnies by Charlie Shades

This super duper cute pink rimmed shades was given to me by my cousin Zai. It comes with a cute coral pink pouch so you can store it in your bag after wearing them.

4. Stila Lip Rouge Liquid Lip Stain

I got this from my office-mate, Steph, who is also very much into makeup. This is the first time that I’m going to try this product and I must say that I really like it. Maybe I’ll wear it when I get too lazy to get dolled up with a regular lipstick. It stays on your lips for quite some time so retouching isn’t so much a hassle.

5.  Etude House Eyebrow Pencil

This is a small gift for myself. I bought this in a bazaar and I’m not even sure if it’s authentic (sorry hehehe). But I just wanted to try out an eyebrow pencil because I haven’t used one before. I usually go for brow powders and brow mascaras.

6. Rosanna Lip Gloss

I got this cute gift from my officemate, Van. I really like the packaging of this lipgloss because it has a decal of the Eiffel Tower :p It’s so cute! It has this coco-vanilla scent to it and it’s perfect to wear for weekends at the mall.

7. Benefit Ultra Shines in Life on the A List Shade

This gift was given to me by my boss. I think I’ll be using this particular lip shine when I want to rock smokey eyes or a sweet romantic look. It has a very pale pink shade which I think I should wear after putting on a lip liner.

8. Etude House Play Nail Polish in Bright Red

This was given to me by my cousin Zai. I’ve tried it already and it’s such a fun color to rock even if I’m quite dark skinned. It doesn’t make my fingers look grayish unlike some other shades of red.

I really love all these beauty items that were given to me for the holidays and I’m really excited to use them. Thank you to all those lovely people who gave these to me ^_^

Opening Mary Kay’s Beauty Box and Review

Hello everyone! I’m so happy to be finally in WordPress! Organizing and lay-outing my blog has become so much easier. And because of that, I’m more than thrilled and excited to get back into writing again 🙂

Anyway, as some of you may have already read, I posted several months ago that I received a Mary Kay Beauty Box at work. It arrived when I took a leave from work because I needed to rest. When my officemate texted me that I have a box from Mary Kay, I was so thrilled to report the next Monday so I can see it! Hahaha!

Anyway, the next Monday, I finally got hold of the box. And it looked so ELEGANT! It was a nice black box which was tied with a silver ribbon and it has a card which read “A new future for your skin”. I got even more excited to open it!

I was already imagining that it would contain a bunch of deluxe samples similar to Glamourbox…and when I opened it, I kinda felt a little bit special 😀 Here’s what’s inside:

I got a FULL SIZE Mary Kay Timewise Plus+ Regena-Firm Intensive Serum and the Timewise Plus+ Regena-Firm Correcting Eye Cream! And when I saw the price of these products, I was totally blown away that this was JUST given to me. 🙂 Wow!

To be honest with you, my lovely readers, I have tried Mary Kay months before I got hold of this beauty box. A friend of mine invited one of Mary Kay’s beauty consultants over at my former church for the ladies’ beauty seminar. I’m really into these kinds of beauty talks so I went and got to sample some of their skincare products – cleanser, facial scrub, toner and moisturizer…THE WORKS! It was quite an experience because it was like getting your skin pampered for free plus getting really important skin care information. But when I got home after the beauty talk, my skin started breaking out 😦 I don’t know if it’s because of my hormones or if it’s because my skin got “shocked” by all the beauty products that were applied but after that incident I actually got scared to try out Mary Kay again. It was quite unusual for my skin to react that way cause it isn’t that sensitive.

Anyway, back to the box.

I didn’t use the products right away because I was still using another product on my skin…and because I was still kinda scared that my skin would breakout.  But after a couple of months, I braved myself into finally using these Mary Kay goodies that I got.

Mary Kay’s Timewise Plus+ Regena-Firm Intensive Serum promises to help provide youth-restoring firmness, volume and lift so facial contours look restored. After reading that I thought to myself…it’s like getting Botox without the scary needles! :p

The first time I tried this product, I got a bit turned off because the serum had this alcohol scent. I have never tried serums before so is that actually normal? Anyway, after applying it all over my face, except the eye area, my skin absorbed the product right away! My skin felt tighter and I noticed that it has this nice glow.

I’ve been using this product for more than a month now and I can say that it’s working pretty nice on my skin. What I really like about it is that it helped reduce the appearance of my pores around the nose area (which I’m very particular about) and also reduced skin flaking…because my skin tends to get dry most especially when it gets cold.

I guess the downside of this product is the price because it’s costs…VERY EXPENSIVE. But since you’ll be using just a little everyday, I guess it could last for a whole year already.

Moving on to the next product in the box, Mary Kay’s Timewise Plus+ Regena-Firm Correcting Eye Cream targets the signs of advanced aging in the eye area by keeping it moisturized. It helps minimize dark circles and lines, reduce puffiness and firms sagging skin around the eyes.

What I really like about this product is its sculpted metal tip. It has this cooling and relaxing feel when you glide it around the eye area. It’s like getting a luxurious and gentle massage most especially if you have tired eyes. The eye cream itself is also good because the skin absorbs it right away even if you apply it with very light pressure.

Just like the serum, I’ve been using this for over a month now and I think one of the positive results that I noticed is that my eye area felt more moisturized and a little bit more firmer.

Overall, I’m very much satisfied with these two products. And I’m happy to say that I didn’t have any breakouts after using these. And If you’re going to ask me if I’m going to purchase this product for myself…I’d say yes but it won’t be my top of mind choice because of the price. But since I really like it…maybe I’ll save up for it so I won’t feel too “guilty” when I splurge on it :p

November Glamourbox Favorites

Hello world! It’s been quite a while since I last blogged. I’ve been very very very busy with work with so little time left to go online. And during these past few weeks, I’ve been cooking up some ideas to share with you when I finally get the time to be online again -which is TODAY! And I’m going to start off with a review of my November Glamourbox favorites.

Shiseido WrinkleResist24 Night Cream

With all the sleepless nights and stress that I’ve been going through these past few weeks because of all the crazy workload that I have, I think the Shiseido WrinkleResist24 Night Cream has become my night buddy and best friend. This is actually the first time that I’ve tried putting on night creams because I just use The Body Shop’s Vitamin E Moisturizer Day Cream. And one thing that I’ve noticed is that the Night Cream has a thicker texture than the Day Cream. I think this is because the Night Cream is more intensive than Day Creams – providing not just moisture but also skin repair.

Anyway, there are several things that I liked about the Shiseido WrinkleResist24 Night Cream. One is that it doesn’t have a strong fragrance. It has a very light scent that actually relaxes you when you put it on. Or maybe it’s just me? Another thing that I like about it is that you only need to put on a little of the product on your face because of its thick texture. But don’t be fooled because it doesn’t feel heavy on the face. And the great thing is that it works right away! After one night of application, my skin felt nice and soft in the morning after. I guess it worked well with my other nightly beauty regimen products.

I can’t think of any downside on this product. But maybe the price? It could be a bit pricey but I think it will be a good investment. Maybe I’ll get this as a Christmas gift for my skin 🙂

Bvlgari Omnia

I so love the scent of Bvlgari’s Omnia Amethyste! It’s subtle and it gives off that nice fresh floral scent. I spray it behind my ear and on my wrist in the morning and it lasts the whole day. I like the way it chemically matches with the pH of my skin because I don’t smell musky and heavy after.

Yves Rocher Slimming Action Concentrate

Lastly, my top 3 favorite is the Yves Rocher Slimming Action Concentrate. At first, I didn’t know what this product does until I read the description on the November Glamourbox card. Well, apparently this is a body lotion which you apply on parts that need some toning – and in my case it’s my thighs.

I’m happy with my thighs. It’s pretty big but I have no issues with it but maybe just for the cellulites that are slowly forming. And since it says in the package that Yves Rocher’s Slimming Action Concentrate can reduce cellulites, I tried the product on my thighs. One thing that I did not like so much about it is the funky smell of green tea and coffee coming together. I think the scent is a bit acidic but I guess that’s just me. But I still tried it and applied it on my thighs. What’s great is that my skin felt tighter after several days of application. I guess if I use this product more often, my cellulites would slowly fade away.

Did you use your November Glamourbox goodies already? What products did you like? Share in the comments below 🙂

REVIEW: Snoe’s Awesome Poresome

Recently, I have always been on the lookout for skin care products that can help remove white heads and lessen big pores. I have this constant problem on my nose where white heads seem to sprout like grass and my cheeks seem to have bigger pores. Then one day, during a trip to the mall, I chanced upon Snoe’s small boutique. I asked if they have a product that can help me with my problem and the sales lady suggested that I try their facial scrub Awesome Poresome Microdermabrasion Retexturizing Polish.

Okay. The name got me! It’s so witty and cute! The sales lady told me that this particular product helps scrub away white heads while at the same time, minimize big pores. She even suggested that I try the whole Awesome Poresome line (with the toner and moisturizer) but I said I’ll just try this particular scrub first.

I immediately tried this product when I got home. The sales lady told me that it’s best to use this as part of your nightly beauty regimen so after cleansing, I scrubbed a small pea-sized amount of Awesome Poresome on my face. The directions on the packaging says that you have to gently scrub on an upward circular motion for one to two minutes, making sure to avoid the eye area. The scrub foamed a bit on my face and the beads glided smoothly. The product also felt cool on the face. After scrubbing, I washed my face with cool water and patted it dry.

Although it says in the front of the packaging that it is “a daily strategic attack on misbehaving pores”, it is recommended that it is used only every other day. Maybe Snoe should take note of that because people who buy it might actually use it everyday which is not really healthy for the skin.

I’ve been using this product for more than a week now and I can say that I’m pretty much satisfied 🙂 I like the fresh and cooling feeling that it leaves on my face. My pores also look a bit tighter now and the white heads on my nose are lessened.

Overall, I’m going to give this product a 4.5/5.

Have you tried Snoe’s Awesome Poresome Microdermabrasion Retexturing Polish already? Share your thoughts in the comments below 🙂

July and August Beauty Hauls

Last July and August was, I think, my stress shopping months. And instead of shopping for shoes, clothes or bags, I usually shop for makeup and beauty products. So here’s a list of my top buys for the past two months and a brief review of them.

1. Skin Cravings Scrub Me Pretty (Strawberry Yoghurt)

I bought this during a grocery shopping trip in Shopwise. They had it at 50% off (it was originally priced at almost P280 each) and I had been eyeing this product way before because of its cute packaging and I also got curious. Anyway, I tried it for a couple of times already and I LOVE IT! It really smells like strawberry flavored yoghurt and I like the soft feeling it gives my skin after using it. What’s nice about this product is that you don’t even have to use body lotion anymore. It moisturizes the skin really well.

2. Ever Bilena Pro Flawless Finish Foundation (Oriental Shade)

I bought this at Shopwise together with the Skin Cravings Body Scrub. I also just got curious because a friend of mine told me that this foundation is good for everyday use. It’s matte and light on the skin. It blends well even if you use your fingers or a foundation brush to apply. I use about two to three pumps of foundation and it’s enough to cover the whole face and the neck. It smells great too, something like coco butter. And I think one of the things that I like about it is the price. It only costs around P130! I’m just a little bit worried that it comes in a glass bottle. Although the glass is a bit thick, I’m just worried that it might break.

3. IN2IT Waterproof Gel Eyeliner in Very Black and Khaki

IN2IT’s Waterproof Gel Eyeliner is my favorite! I usually buy the Dark Brown shade because it’s not that intense and great for everyday use. This time, I bought their limited edition 2-pencil pack in Khaki and Very Black. I bought it for P499 and I think that it’s a good price to pay for a great eyeliner. The pencil glides smoothly on the skin then the product dries after a minute. I really like it because it doesn’t give me raccoon eyes after a whole day of wearing it. As you can see on the swatches above, the Khaki shade is a bit greenish. It’s great for a natural makeup look because it gives your eyes that little something extra for more drama. The Very Black shade is also nice because it’s very pigmented.

4. ELF Mineral Infused Face Primer

This is the first time that I bought a face primer. I usually just apply moisturizer on my face before putting on foundation. But after trying this product, I realized that I should’ve tried it way before! I bought this at SM Makati’s Cosmetics Section for P399.75 and I think that it’s a good buy. This particular primer is clear in color and you only need a pea-size to cover the whole face. It gives your skin that smooth and satin finish, which makes foundation application a lot easier. It gives off that nice matte finish, too. The only downside to this primer is the bottle itself because it’s hard to pump out the product. I had to open the bottle for the first time to get out some of the primer. But after two to three uses, I was able to easily get the primer out through the pump.

5. Etude House’s Ms. Tangerine Brightening Cotton Primer

I got this at Etude House’s 30% Off Sale last July. This Brightening Cotton Primer works as a toner and moisturizer at the same time! I like this product because it saves me some time in the morning whenever I do my makeup. Instead of applying toner and moisturizer separately, I just use this product. It’s amazing! I also like that it smells nice and fresh, more on the citrusy scent. What’s also nice about this is that it comes with a pair of plastic tweezers which you can use to get a piece of the cotton primer out. It helps make sure that the other cotton primers won’t get contaminated.

6. Urban Decay Book of Shadows IV

This is the best purchase I made ever! Urban Decay is a US brand that’s not really available here in the Philippines. I bought this online at E-Bazaar USA for P2580 which is a very good price already. What’s so nice about this product is basically everything! It has 16 eyeshadow shades that’s really gorgeous! I’ve tried two shades so far and I love that it’s really pigmented. Plus, it has the most talked about Eyeshadow Primer Potion in Travel Size (which I already tried and really loved! It helps the eyeshadow stay on your eyes for hours and helps prevent creasing), Urban Decay’s Supercurl Curling Mascara in Travel Size, too (which I also tried and loved! I like the shape of its wand which makes application easy), a full size 24/7 Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner (I tried this as well and I like the precise lines that it makes), and a cute speaker key-chain which you can attach to your phone. The Book of Shadows IV also has a card with printed QR codes on it which you can scan on your smartphone so you can watch 5 makeup tutorials inspired by this product.

What do you think, guys? Have you tried any of these products?

Review: Asian Clinic’s L’Oreal Extenzo Rebonding

Every girl has got to have some time to pamper herself every once in a while. And that’s exactly what I did 2 weeks ago 🙂

Last April, I purchased Asian Clinic’s group deal from Groupon for their Rebonding service with hair cut, foot spa, manicure and pedicure services. It was priced at P6,000 but I got it for just roughly P1000. I was reserving to use the coupon for my birthday last May but I soon found out that Asian Clinic is really fully booked and you have to reserve a slot months ahead because they can only accommodate 8 clients per day. Anyway, I also found out that you can only reserve a slot through their website.

Their website is really nice and registering was very easy. After doing so, I proceeded with reserving my slot. I picked June 11th and a 2pm slot.

Asian Clinic is located at the third floor of Goldrich Mansion Bldg, 4658 Cuangco Street Corner South Superhighway. Coming from my office in Shaw Blvd., I just took the MRT and got off Magallanes. Then I took a jeep going to Waltermart and walked all the way to Asian Clinic…which I think was a really bad idea :p I think there’s a jeep that crosses the South Superhighway but I decided to just walk…and its almost 2PM! *bad for the skin!*

After browsing through the net for some reviews about Asian Clinic and judging from the elegant look of their website, I thought that their salon/clinic would look as posh. But I expected too much 😦 Asian Clinic was just a slightly big room on the 3rd Floor of the building. When I got there, about 6 women were already in the middle of their rebonding session. It was a pretty busy day considering that it was a Monday. Anyway, I proceeded to their receptionist and presented my coupon, telling the girl that I have a 2PM appointment. Then she handed me out a client information form which I needed to fill out. It looks like this:

It was like a short survey of your hair history…asking thinks like when was the last time you had your hair treated, if you have allergies to henna, etc. It took me about 5 to 10 minutes to finish. I gave the client information back to the receptionist and she assigned a “Kuya”, named Emerson, to work on my treatment.

Emerson asked several questions about my hair…which I found redundant since those were questions I already answered on their survey. But I guess, he’s just making sure. Then after a little chit-chat he asked to go with an Ate so I could have my hair shampooed and conditioned. That relieved me so much because I was sweating like a pig since I got there! By the way, their air conditioning is really bad. Considering all the blow dryers and the hair irons they’ve been using, plus the hot afternoon sun blazing outside, they should really get a new A/C or get their old one cleaned up or fixed.

After getting my hair refreshed, Kuya Emerson proceeded with applying the rebonding mix on my hair. I was seated near the windows and man, it was hot! Good thing I had a fan with me. This is how the salon looks like from my view at the back, near the windows:

I decided to put away my thoughts of how hot the place was and decided that I should enjoy this. Good thing they’ve got a big LCD TV with movies playing. That got my focus off the heat.

When Kuya Emerson was finished applying the rebonding hair mix, I had to wait for more than 30 minutes to wash it off. And while waiting, I had my foot spa 🙂

Here is the foot spa machine that they used. After which I had my foot scrub and a free massage because I fanned Ate Paul cause he was sweating, too.

And tada! My refreshed feet! I was initially wearing my flat shoes that day and decided to bring some slippers.

After my refreshing foot spa, Kuya Emerson told me to have my hair washed again so he could proceed with the next step: which is ironing.

I’ve had my hair rebonded a couple of years ago and I literally cried when it got ironed. A part of my scalp got burned by the hair iron and I was expecting that it’s going to be like that all over again. But Kuya Emerson proved me wrong! He was really good and gentle with my hair. He was careful and even if my hair was really thick (Kuya Emerson told me my hair volume was for two people -.-), Kuya ironed small sections of my hair and didn’t rush through it. As he was doing so, I had my mani-pedi done 🙂 It was the ultimate pampering treat! I picked a dark blue (almost black) shade for my toe nails and a bright purple shade for my fingernails.

After my hair got ironed, it was now time for Cellophane. I chose a chocolate brown color for the shade. It was almost 7 o’clock when Kuya Emerson started on the cellophane, and since they’re only until 8PM, he asked one of the ate’s to help him. I had to wait for another 30 minutes to set the cellophane on my hair then after which it was washed off and blow dried.

Part of the package that I got was a haircut but I guess I expected too much again. I was expecting that they would style my hair…but Kuya Emerson just trimmed it…well, I have no problem with that. I could have my hair styled some other time.

The whole treatment was finished at almost 8 o’clock and I was their last customer. I was pretty happy with the result. Check it out:

What I like about Asian Clinic’s Rebonding service is that it didn’t make my hair look artificially straightened. It still had that body that makes it look natural.

Did I say that Asian Clinic’s place is hot? Yes, it was hot. So I hope their management better get a new A/C or at least get their old one fixed and cleaned up.

And since I was their last customer, the other rebonding specialists and employees were lounging around. Their “branch manager” gathered them and held an instant meeting right there at the salon – right where I could hear them. Apparently, they know about the A/C problem…so I hope they really get it fixed…and also, they’ve got some clients who complain that they don’t get attended to right away. Well, those people have the right to complain because they’ve set an appointment. And if they booked for a 2pm, that means they have to be attended to at 2pm..not 2:30…not 3pm…but 2pm. They discussed a lot of things during their instant meeting…and I really think that they shouldn’t do that if there is still a customer around. I do agree with some of their points but for professionalism’s sake and to save some brand image, they should air those things out when the customers are out of the salon and happy.

Overall, I would give them a 3.5 rating out of 5. And would I come back? Maybe. If they offer the deal again on Cashcash Pinoy or Beeconomic or Groupon 😀

XOXO, MorenaGirl
