My Current Foundation Routine

Finding the right shade of foundation can be quite tricky especially for morena-toned ladies like me. There are a lot of factors to consider like your skin type, the look that you’re going for, the weather, etc. For this post, I’d like to share with you guys my current foundation routine that I think can adapt to changes, like for example your skin tone. Read on to find out how.

I think the most important thing that one should do before putting on foundation is to make sure that your skin is cleansed, moisturized and hydrated. So before you go crazy with the foundation, make sure to wash your face, put on your eye cream, moisturizer and skin primer. I think this is very important most especially now that the cold weather can cause dry and flaky skin.

After prepping your skin, we’re now ready to put on the foundation. Currently, I am using BYS Matte Foundation in Natural Beige and Medium Beige. If you have oily skin like me, matte foundations work wonders. Now, you might be asking, why two shades? Well, just like what I said earlier, our skin tones change depending on the season. During the colder seasons, we tend to have lighter skin tones while during the summer days, we tend to have darker skin tones. So, to save a little, I decided to buy two shades of foundation, one lighter and one darker, so I can mix them depending on the current skin tone that I have. Right now, I mix two pumps of the Natural Beige and one pump of Medium Beige or my foundation.

2 Pumps of Natural Beige + 1 Pump of Medium Beige

2 Pumps of Natural Beige + 1 Pump of Medium Beige

I use a makeup sponge or a stippling brush to dab the foundation on my face then afterwards, I use my fingers to blend it. I find this an effective way to “warm up” the foundation on my face so that it blends easily and won’t clump or cake.  After putting on the foundation, I set it by patting on G-lish Powder Me Perfect Loose Powder in Porcelain Princess. I really like this powder because it blends well with the foundation and it gives my face that clean and matte finish plus a velvety feel. Remember to just pat the powder on your face. Never drag it because the powder sponge can move the foundation under and cause it to clump. Then use a powder brush to even out everything.

Then, that’s it! Apply your contour (if you like), blush, eye makeup and lipstick/gloss and you’re all done.

2013 Holiday Gifts

2013 has been quite a challenging year for me but despite all the setbacks that I have experienced, I can say that it has been a year of blessings too 🙂

Before I proceed with sharing with you some of the lovely holiday gifts that I got, I just want to announce to my lovely readers that I am now 5 months pregnant (yay!!!). This is my first and it’s also one of the reasons why I have been on hiatus for a while in updating my blog because I was quite busy with focusing on my pregnancy and making sure that everything is going well. I am so excited to share with you this journey of mine because I know that my experience could also help some women out there. Anyway, that’s just some preview of my upcoming posts ^_^

So, the holidays are finally over! All the gifts have been sent out and I also got some ^_^

1. Bench Sweet Serendipity Moisturizing Body Lotion

I got this gift from my cousin Aaron and Grace. I have tried this already and I use it to moisturize my growing preggy belly after I take a shower. It’s not so greasy and I like the faint scent which is not too overpowering.

2. Wanderlush Secret Garden Body Lotion Collection

Our lovely voice over talent in the office gave this gift to me. It comes in three scents – peach blossom, orchid burst, and sunflower passion. I haven’t opened the box yet but I’m excited to try them out too. I’ve been quite obsessed with body lotions recently because I want to avoid the stretch marks caused by pregnancy :p

3. Sunnies by Charlie Shades

This super duper cute pink rimmed shades was given to me by my cousin Zai. It comes with a cute coral pink pouch so you can store it in your bag after wearing them.

4. Stila Lip Rouge Liquid Lip Stain

I got this from my office-mate, Steph, who is also very much into makeup. This is the first time that I’m going to try this product and I must say that I really like it. Maybe I’ll wear it when I get too lazy to get dolled up with a regular lipstick. It stays on your lips for quite some time so retouching isn’t so much a hassle.

5.  Etude House Eyebrow Pencil

This is a small gift for myself. I bought this in a bazaar and I’m not even sure if it’s authentic (sorry hehehe). But I just wanted to try out an eyebrow pencil because I haven’t used one before. I usually go for brow powders and brow mascaras.

6. Rosanna Lip Gloss

I got this cute gift from my officemate, Van. I really like the packaging of this lipgloss because it has a decal of the Eiffel Tower :p It’s so cute! It has this coco-vanilla scent to it and it’s perfect to wear for weekends at the mall.

7. Benefit Ultra Shines in Life on the A List Shade

This gift was given to me by my boss. I think I’ll be using this particular lip shine when I want to rock smokey eyes or a sweet romantic look. It has a very pale pink shade which I think I should wear after putting on a lip liner.

8. Etude House Play Nail Polish in Bright Red

This was given to me by my cousin Zai. I’ve tried it already and it’s such a fun color to rock even if I’m quite dark skinned. It doesn’t make my fingers look grayish unlike some other shades of red.

I really love all these beauty items that were given to me for the holidays and I’m really excited to use them. Thank you to all those lovely people who gave these to me ^_^

Summer Must Haves <3

Hi everyone! I just came back from a short vacation to celebrate my mom and sister’s birthday in Puerto Galera. It’s my second time to visit the place and I must say that it’s really worth visiting again. There’s so much more to it than the most-of-the-time-overpopulated White Beach. Our trip was filled with so much fun as we explored the different beaches and went snorkeling. Summer is definitely more fun here in the Philippines! :p

Anyway, just in time for summer, I would like to share with you some of my summer bag essentials that I brought with me during the trip. Being morena doesn’t really spare me from the harsh effects of the sun that’s why I think that it is important to bring along some skin essentials to keep me protected.

1. After Sun Gel

I really like this After Sun Gel from Hawaiian Tropic. I got this from The Beauty Bar last December because my husband needed relief from the sunburn that he got from our Tagaytay trip. I apply this as soon as my skin starts feeling hot after some extreme sun exposure. I really like the cooling sensation that it leaves my skin. I just don’t like the sticky feeling after.

2. Baby Wipes

Hmmm…it’s like carrying a portable cold towel with you. So make sure to keep this in your summer bag stash.

3. Johnson’s Baby Daily Sun Protection Lotion

This product works wonders! And what I also like about this is that it’s gentle formula allows you to apply it on your face. It has SPF30/PA++ protection to keep your face protected from the sun. And if you plan to take pictures when you hit the pool/beach, just make sure to apply this at least an hour before cause it leaves a weird white residue on your face when it gets wet.

4. Lip Balm

I think it’s important to bring along lip balms even if you’re going to the beach. This helps protect your lips from windburn or from the extreme heat. It also helps keep your lips hydrated and moisturized.

5. Mist Spray

I bought this Evian Mist Spray a couple of weeks ago in my desperate desire to stay fresh in the super hot and humid summer weather of Manila. It was a bit pricey but I think it was a good buy because it does freshen up your face without that greasy feeling after.

6. BB Cream with SPF30 protection

This particular BB cream that I bought from Etude House a couple of months ago works wonders in protecting your skin from the harmful rays of the sun. I really like this BB cream because it also doubles up as a foundation. It blends well on my skin tone and it doesn’t leave my face looking too white.

7. Sunblock

Never leave home without it. Never hit the beach/pool without it.

Opening Mary Kay’s Beauty Box and Review

Hello everyone! I’m so happy to be finally in WordPress! Organizing and lay-outing my blog has become so much easier. And because of that, I’m more than thrilled and excited to get back into writing again 🙂

Anyway, as some of you may have already read, I posted several months ago that I received a Mary Kay Beauty Box at work. It arrived when I took a leave from work because I needed to rest. When my officemate texted me that I have a box from Mary Kay, I was so thrilled to report the next Monday so I can see it! Hahaha!

Anyway, the next Monday, I finally got hold of the box. And it looked so ELEGANT! It was a nice black box which was tied with a silver ribbon and it has a card which read “A new future for your skin”. I got even more excited to open it!

I was already imagining that it would contain a bunch of deluxe samples similar to Glamourbox…and when I opened it, I kinda felt a little bit special 😀 Here’s what’s inside:

I got a FULL SIZE Mary Kay Timewise Plus+ Regena-Firm Intensive Serum and the Timewise Plus+ Regena-Firm Correcting Eye Cream! And when I saw the price of these products, I was totally blown away that this was JUST given to me. 🙂 Wow!

To be honest with you, my lovely readers, I have tried Mary Kay months before I got hold of this beauty box. A friend of mine invited one of Mary Kay’s beauty consultants over at my former church for the ladies’ beauty seminar. I’m really into these kinds of beauty talks so I went and got to sample some of their skincare products – cleanser, facial scrub, toner and moisturizer…THE WORKS! It was quite an experience because it was like getting your skin pampered for free plus getting really important skin care information. But when I got home after the beauty talk, my skin started breaking out 😦 I don’t know if it’s because of my hormones or if it’s because my skin got “shocked” by all the beauty products that were applied but after that incident I actually got scared to try out Mary Kay again. It was quite unusual for my skin to react that way cause it isn’t that sensitive.

Anyway, back to the box.

I didn’t use the products right away because I was still using another product on my skin…and because I was still kinda scared that my skin would breakout.  But after a couple of months, I braved myself into finally using these Mary Kay goodies that I got.

Mary Kay’s Timewise Plus+ Regena-Firm Intensive Serum promises to help provide youth-restoring firmness, volume and lift so facial contours look restored. After reading that I thought to myself…it’s like getting Botox without the scary needles! :p

The first time I tried this product, I got a bit turned off because the serum had this alcohol scent. I have never tried serums before so is that actually normal? Anyway, after applying it all over my face, except the eye area, my skin absorbed the product right away! My skin felt tighter and I noticed that it has this nice glow.

I’ve been using this product for more than a month now and I can say that it’s working pretty nice on my skin. What I really like about it is that it helped reduce the appearance of my pores around the nose area (which I’m very particular about) and also reduced skin flaking…because my skin tends to get dry most especially when it gets cold.

I guess the downside of this product is the price because it’s costs…VERY EXPENSIVE. But since you’ll be using just a little everyday, I guess it could last for a whole year already.

Moving on to the next product in the box, Mary Kay’s Timewise Plus+ Regena-Firm Correcting Eye Cream targets the signs of advanced aging in the eye area by keeping it moisturized. It helps minimize dark circles and lines, reduce puffiness and firms sagging skin around the eyes.

What I really like about this product is its sculpted metal tip. It has this cooling and relaxing feel when you glide it around the eye area. It’s like getting a luxurious and gentle massage most especially if you have tired eyes. The eye cream itself is also good because the skin absorbs it right away even if you apply it with very light pressure.

Just like the serum, I’ve been using this for over a month now and I think one of the positive results that I noticed is that my eye area felt more moisturized and a little bit more firmer.

Overall, I’m very much satisfied with these two products. And I’m happy to say that I didn’t have any breakouts after using these. And If you’re going to ask me if I’m going to purchase this product for myself…I’d say yes but it won’t be my top of mind choice because of the price. But since I really like it…maybe I’ll save up for it so I won’t feel too “guilty” when I splurge on it :p

November Glamourbox Favorites

Hello world! It’s been quite a while since I last blogged. I’ve been very very very busy with work with so little time left to go online. And during these past few weeks, I’ve been cooking up some ideas to share with you when I finally get the time to be online again -which is TODAY! And I’m going to start off with a review of my November Glamourbox favorites.

Shiseido WrinkleResist24 Night Cream

With all the sleepless nights and stress that I’ve been going through these past few weeks because of all the crazy workload that I have, I think the Shiseido WrinkleResist24 Night Cream has become my night buddy and best friend. This is actually the first time that I’ve tried putting on night creams because I just use The Body Shop’s Vitamin E Moisturizer Day Cream. And one thing that I’ve noticed is that the Night Cream has a thicker texture than the Day Cream. I think this is because the Night Cream is more intensive than Day Creams – providing not just moisture but also skin repair.

Anyway, there are several things that I liked about the Shiseido WrinkleResist24 Night Cream. One is that it doesn’t have a strong fragrance. It has a very light scent that actually relaxes you when you put it on. Or maybe it’s just me? Another thing that I like about it is that you only need to put on a little of the product on your face because of its thick texture. But don’t be fooled because it doesn’t feel heavy on the face. And the great thing is that it works right away! After one night of application, my skin felt nice and soft in the morning after. I guess it worked well with my other nightly beauty regimen products.

I can’t think of any downside on this product. But maybe the price? It could be a bit pricey but I think it will be a good investment. Maybe I’ll get this as a Christmas gift for my skin 🙂

Bvlgari Omnia

I so love the scent of Bvlgari’s Omnia Amethyste! It’s subtle and it gives off that nice fresh floral scent. I spray it behind my ear and on my wrist in the morning and it lasts the whole day. I like the way it chemically matches with the pH of my skin because I don’t smell musky and heavy after.

Yves Rocher Slimming Action Concentrate

Lastly, my top 3 favorite is the Yves Rocher Slimming Action Concentrate. At first, I didn’t know what this product does until I read the description on the November Glamourbox card. Well, apparently this is a body lotion which you apply on parts that need some toning – and in my case it’s my thighs.

I’m happy with my thighs. It’s pretty big but I have no issues with it but maybe just for the cellulites that are slowly forming. And since it says in the package that Yves Rocher’s Slimming Action Concentrate can reduce cellulites, I tried the product on my thighs. One thing that I did not like so much about it is the funky smell of green tea and coffee coming together. I think the scent is a bit acidic but I guess that’s just me. But I still tried it and applied it on my thighs. What’s great is that my skin felt tighter after several days of application. I guess if I use this product more often, my cellulites would slowly fade away.

Unboxing My November Glamourbox

Finally! It’s here! 🙂

I had my November Glamourbox mailed to my parents’ house and it arrived I think one to two weeks ago. When my mom told me that it finally arrived, I was so thrilled to open it already!

Whenever I open gifts, I don’t usually rip it open because I would always think of all the effort that goes into wrapping them. I’m also the type of girl who saves the nice wrapper and ribbon. And when I opened my November Glamourbox, it gave me that feeling that it was put together specially for me, like a gift. The box was so nicely prepared! Everything in it was cushioned with shredded Japanese paper and wrapped nicely with a peachy-pink paper.

It also has a welcome card that includes a price list of the items (printed at the backside) just in case you want to buy the full-sized product.

The November Glamourbox is full of really great expensive items and I am quite happy about what I got 🙂 Take a look:

1. OFRA COSMETICS Lipstick Palette

Since I am more of a makeup person, receiving this item got me thrilled! I’m excited to use it already! I totally agree with the description that it is “a playful array of clear, light pink, dark pink, burgundy, orange tone, light brown and dark brown shades to match any outfit”.

2. YVES ROCHER Slimming Action Concentrate

This is the first time that I’ve encountered this brand. But I’m curious at how this body lotion works which promises to smoothen and tone skin.

3. YVES ROCHER Gift Card P200

A full size of Yves Rocher’s Slimming Action Concentrate costs P1,190. If that product works well for me. I think I might be using this gift card 🙂

4. SHISEIDO Benefiance WrinkleResist24 Night Cream

Aside from makeup, skin care products also get me excited that’s why I’m going to try Shiseido’s Benefiance WrinkleResist24 Night Cream right away! For me, skin care is more important than makeup because it’s easier to highlight what’s nice on your face rather than to cover flaws.

5. EYE OF HORUS Mascara

My eyelashes are uneven and that’s why mascaras are not really a top priority for me when I buy makeup. But this product promises to strengthen and lengthen lashes so I’ll be trying out this one.

My dad and my husband were thrilled to see that my package has something for them, too 🙂

7. BVLGARI Omnia Amethyste and CALVIN KLEIN Eternity Aqua

I also gave my mom a chance to enjoy what’s inside my November Glamourbox by giving her the Calvin Klein sampler. She was also thrilled to get it 🙂 I’ll be trying the BVLGARI scent for myself.

REVIEW: Snoe’s Awesome Poresome

Recently, I have always been on the lookout for skin care products that can help remove white heads and lessen big pores. I have this constant problem on my nose where white heads seem to sprout like grass and my cheeks seem to have bigger pores. Then one day, during a trip to the mall, I chanced upon Snoe’s small boutique. I asked if they have a product that can help me with my problem and the sales lady suggested that I try their facial scrub Awesome Poresome Microdermabrasion Retexturizing Polish.

Okay. The name got me! It’s so witty and cute! The sales lady told me that this particular product helps scrub away white heads while at the same time, minimize big pores. She even suggested that I try the whole Awesome Poresome line (with the toner and moisturizer) but I said I’ll just try this particular scrub first.

I immediately tried this product when I got home. The sales lady told me that it’s best to use this as part of your nightly beauty regimen so after cleansing, I scrubbed a small pea-sized amount of Awesome Poresome on my face. The directions on the packaging says that you have to gently scrub on an upward circular motion for one to two minutes, making sure to avoid the eye area. The scrub foamed a bit on my face and the beads glided smoothly. The product also felt cool on the face. After scrubbing, I washed my face with cool water and patted it dry.

Although it says in the front of the packaging that it is “a daily strategic attack on misbehaving pores”, it is recommended that it is used only every other day. Maybe Snoe should take note of that because people who buy it might actually use it everyday which is not really healthy for the skin.

I’ve been using this product for more than a week now and I can say that I’m pretty much satisfied 🙂 I like the fresh and cooling feeling that it leaves on my face. My pores also look a bit tighter now and the white heads on my nose are lessened.

Overall, I’m going to give this product a 4.5/5.

Have you tried Snoe’s Awesome Poresome Microdermabrasion Retexturing Polish already? Share your thoughts in the comments below 🙂

July and August Beauty Hauls

Last July and August was, I think, my stress shopping months. And instead of shopping for shoes, clothes or bags, I usually shop for makeup and beauty products. So here’s a list of my top buys for the past two months and a brief review of them.

1. Skin Cravings Scrub Me Pretty (Strawberry Yoghurt)

I bought this during a grocery shopping trip in Shopwise. They had it at 50% off (it was originally priced at almost P280 each) and I had been eyeing this product way before because of its cute packaging and I also got curious. Anyway, I tried it for a couple of times already and I LOVE IT! It really smells like strawberry flavored yoghurt and I like the soft feeling it gives my skin after using it. What’s nice about this product is that you don’t even have to use body lotion anymore. It moisturizes the skin really well.

2. Ever Bilena Pro Flawless Finish Foundation (Oriental Shade)

I bought this at Shopwise together with the Skin Cravings Body Scrub. I also just got curious because a friend of mine told me that this foundation is good for everyday use. It’s matte and light on the skin. It blends well even if you use your fingers or a foundation brush to apply. I use about two to three pumps of foundation and it’s enough to cover the whole face and the neck. It smells great too, something like coco butter. And I think one of the things that I like about it is the price. It only costs around P130! I’m just a little bit worried that it comes in a glass bottle. Although the glass is a bit thick, I’m just worried that it might break.

3. IN2IT Waterproof Gel Eyeliner in Very Black and Khaki

IN2IT’s Waterproof Gel Eyeliner is my favorite! I usually buy the Dark Brown shade because it’s not that intense and great for everyday use. This time, I bought their limited edition 2-pencil pack in Khaki and Very Black. I bought it for P499 and I think that it’s a good price to pay for a great eyeliner. The pencil glides smoothly on the skin then the product dries after a minute. I really like it because it doesn’t give me raccoon eyes after a whole day of wearing it. As you can see on the swatches above, the Khaki shade is a bit greenish. It’s great for a natural makeup look because it gives your eyes that little something extra for more drama. The Very Black shade is also nice because it’s very pigmented.

4. ELF Mineral Infused Face Primer

This is the first time that I bought a face primer. I usually just apply moisturizer on my face before putting on foundation. But after trying this product, I realized that I should’ve tried it way before! I bought this at SM Makati’s Cosmetics Section for P399.75 and I think that it’s a good buy. This particular primer is clear in color and you only need a pea-size to cover the whole face. It gives your skin that smooth and satin finish, which makes foundation application a lot easier. It gives off that nice matte finish, too. The only downside to this primer is the bottle itself because it’s hard to pump out the product. I had to open the bottle for the first time to get out some of the primer. But after two to three uses, I was able to easily get the primer out through the pump.

5. Etude House’s Ms. Tangerine Brightening Cotton Primer

I got this at Etude House’s 30% Off Sale last July. This Brightening Cotton Primer works as a toner and moisturizer at the same time! I like this product because it saves me some time in the morning whenever I do my makeup. Instead of applying toner and moisturizer separately, I just use this product. It’s amazing! I also like that it smells nice and fresh, more on the citrusy scent. What’s also nice about this is that it comes with a pair of plastic tweezers which you can use to get a piece of the cotton primer out. It helps make sure that the other cotton primers won’t get contaminated.

6. Urban Decay Book of Shadows IV

This is the best purchase I made ever! Urban Decay is a US brand that’s not really available here in the Philippines. I bought this online at E-Bazaar USA for P2580 which is a very good price already. What’s so nice about this product is basically everything! It has 16 eyeshadow shades that’s really gorgeous! I’ve tried two shades so far and I love that it’s really pigmented. Plus, it has the most talked about Eyeshadow Primer Potion in Travel Size (which I already tried and really loved! It helps the eyeshadow stay on your eyes for hours and helps prevent creasing), Urban Decay’s Supercurl Curling Mascara in Travel Size, too (which I also tried and loved! I like the shape of its wand which makes application easy), a full size 24/7 Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner (I tried this as well and I like the precise lines that it makes), and a cute speaker key-chain which you can attach to your phone. The Book of Shadows IV also has a card with printed QR codes on it which you can scan on your smartphone so you can watch 5 makeup tutorials inspired by this product.

What do you think, guys? Have you tried any of these products?
